Following the government's advice we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel all 4 of our clubs for the time being. At the time of writing, we have no indication as to when we may be allowed to re-open them. It would seem that social distancing could be with us for some time and it could be a very long time before people feel confident enough to be part of a large gathering in an enclosed space.
We will listen to all the advice given and as soon as we feel it is appropriate to re-start the clubs we will let our clients and volunteers know and update our website.

The Wheel of Care runs four regular and friendly clubs at which all are very welcome. The Wheel of Care is unique among Good Neighbour Schemes in Surrey because we are the only Scheme which runs one club, let alone four! We think it is crucial that people who are perhaps living on their own and may be a little lonely have the opportunity to get out regularly and meet with friends for some companionship whilst at the same time partaking in some sort of activity.
Anyone living in neighbouring villages can attend all of the clubs - they are not limited to those living in West Horsley. Help with transport to/from the clubs can also be arranged for those living in the Horsleys, Effingham or Ockham - just ring the Duty Officer up to one week in advance.
All clubs include tea or coffee and biscuits or cakes so why not come along and have some fun at one (or all!) of our clubs. No booking required ... just turn up! Please check the "News & Events" page for specific dates when our clubs will be running.
Our SCRABBLE CLUB is held every Tuesday afternoon between 2.00-3.45pm ... "a friendly challenge"! Although some of our longer-standing players are now Scrabble "demons", everyone is always happy to see new faces, whether you are an experienced Scrabble player or not and help is available in the shape of Scrabble dictionaries and a very useful list of two-letter words! New players are always welcome.
It is a lovely way in which to spend a couple of hours every week and the room we use provides a warm and cosy environment in which to play Scrabble so ... don't be put off. Come along and have some fun, whilst enjoying a cup of tea and a delicious piece of cake!
Scrabble Club meets in the Wesley Room at The Methodist Church, The Street, KT24 6DD (fully wheelchair accessible). A small donation of £1.50 is requested as a contribution towards the running costs.
MOVEMENT TO MUSIC is our weekly keep fit class and is designed to promote fitness and balance amongst those attending particularly to try and prevent falls. It is an active, fun and lively exercise class run by a professional exercise teacher. Those who attend not only enjoy the friendships they have made during the class but find the exercises fun too.
Movement to Music takes place on Thurdays (term-time only) between 2.15-3.00pm at The Wheelhouse, 82 East Lane, KT24 6LQ. A small donation of £2.50 per person is suggested to go towards the running costs.
Our SEATED DANCE CLASS is great fun and is led by a professional exercise teacher. It takes the form of gentle exercise whilst sitting comfortably so may be particularly helpful for someone whose balance isn't as great as it used to be but who still wants to keep active. The movements are very easy and you just join in as much or as little as you are able to. There's a good mix of great music - everything from nostalgic "sing-along songs" to Latin music and lots in between. There is always lots of laughter too! This class is suitable for a huge range of abilities as you just do what you want to or can do - it is really not as sedate as you might think! It should also be suitable for people with either Parkinson's or Alzheimer's (but please bring your carer with you).
Seated Dance takes place on Wednesdays (term-time only) between 10.45-11.30am (refreshments from 10.15am) in the Cedar Room (fully wheelchair accessible) at West Horsley Village Hall, The Street, KT24 6DD. A small donation of £2.50 is requested as a contribution towards running costs.
FILM CLUB takes place once a month, always on the second Monday of every month at 2pm with tea and home-made cakes served after the film.
The films shown over the past few years have varied enormously but they are normally recently-released films or much-loved classics and are much enjoyed by everyone who comes. Subtitles are used and the heating will be on if its cold outside ... there can't be a much better way to spend a Monday afternoon!
Due to restrictions imposed on us by our licence, we are unable to advertise the details of the films to be shown on this website. However, to find out what film is due to be shown next, please telephone the Duty Officer on 01483 281703 (Monday-Friday 10am-noon).
Film Club takes place in the Wesley Room at The Methodist Church, The Street, KT24 6DD (fully wheelchair accessible). A small donation of £2.50 is requested as a contribution towards running costs.
