Who cares?  The Wheel does!

Meeting the needs of local residents of all ages, enabling

them to lead independent, fuller and richer lives

and preventing social isolation

The Wheel of Care runs three regular and friendly clubs at which all are very welcome.  The Wheel of Care is unique among Good Neighbour Schemes in Surrey because we are the only Scheme which runs one club, let alone three!  We think it is crucial that people who are perhaps living on their own and may be a little lonely have the opportunity to get out regularly and meet with friends for some companionship whilst at the same time taking part in some sort of activity.

Anyone living in neighbouring villages can attend any of the clubs - they are not limited to those living in West Horsley.

Help with transport to/from the clubs can also be arranged for those living in the Horsleys, Effingham or Ockham - just ring the Duty Officer on 01483 281703 up to one week in advance.

All clubs include tea or coffee and biscuits or cakes so why not come along

and have some fun at one...or all...of our clubs!

With our clubs opening up we are relaxing some of the Covid protocols we had in place.

From now on clients will be able to travel in the front seat and our volunteers will be able to take more than one passenger in the car.  All clients have been asked to continue wearing a mask and use hand sanitizer, as we would expect our drivers to do, and we suggest continuing to have a window slightly open in the car for air circulation

The Wheelhouse Café, run by St Mary's church, will be starting again every Friday from 10th September, 10.30am - 12.00noon at The Wheelhouse at 82 East Lane, KT24 6LQ.

It is a local meeting point where you can chat, play board games and puzzles, or for those who might just prefer a piece of cake and a quiet read, newspapers are available too.  Complimentary tea, coffee and delicious home-baked cakes.

Transport will be provided by the community minibus.  Requests for transport and any queries should be phoned through to St Mary’s Parish Office on 01483 281898 by midday on the Wednesday before the Friday.

It is always lovely to hear from our clients!  We recently received the following message from a client whom we have been helping for the past year or so:

"Many, many thanks to West Horsley Wheel of Care for organising so efficiently my car lifts to the Scrabble sessions and Film Club.  It has made such a difference to my life this year when I have been unable to drive and enabling me to meet people and start a new pastime.  Also, thanks for the cups of tea and delicious cake.  Everything much appreciated."

It was announced on 2nd June 2015 that the Wheel of Care had been honoured with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK and the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary groups. Please click on the link immediately below The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service logo to the right for a copy of the press release regarding this prestigious award.

If there is snow / ice on the ground, it is highly likely that all Wheel of Care clubs will be cancelled.  If you are unsure whether a club is going ahead, please ring the Duty Officer on 01483 281703 (Monday-Friday 10am-noon).  We will also post an update on this page if any club is cancelled due to the weather.
